GUIDE #290
How to Play Texas Hold'em Poker Online
No-limit Texas Hold'em for 2–6 players. Everyone starts with 1,000 chips and the blinds go up every six hands. Make the best five-card hand from your two hole cards and five shared cards, or bet so the others fold. Play continues until one player has all the chips.
01 // CONTROLS
Controls
- Fold, Check / Call, or Bet / Raise from the action bar on your turn
- Set a raise with the slider or the Min, ½ Pot, Pot and All-in shortcuts
- A countdown runs on your turn. If it hits zero you check if you can, otherwise you fold
02 // STEPS
Step by step
- 01
Fill the table
Create a room and invite friends, or add computer players in the lobby. vs Computer seats three bots by default. Empty seats below the minimum are filled with bots at the start.
- 02
Blinds and hole cards
The two players left of the dealer button post the small and big blind (10/20 to start). Each player gets two private hole cards. Heads-up, the dealer posts the small blind and acts first before the flop.
- 03
Four betting rounds
Betting happens pre-flop, on the flop (3 shared cards), the turn (4th) and the river (5th). A raise must be at least the size of the previous bet or raise. An all-in that falls short of a full raise does not reopen betting for players who already acted.
- 04
Side pots
An all-in player can only win what they matched from each opponent. Bets beyond that go into side pots that only the players who covered them can win. The table shows each pot separately.
- 05
Showdown
The remaining hands are revealed and each pot goes to the best five-card hand among the players eligible for it. Hands rank from royal flush down to high card, and kickers break ties. Exact ties split the pot, and the odd chip goes to the first winner left of the button.
- 06
Rising blinds
Every six hands the blinds go up (15/30, 25/50, 50/100 …), so short stacks have to make their move. A player with no chips is out.

Pro tips
- Position matters. Play more hands on the button and fewer from the blinds.
- Raise your strong hands before the flop rather than just calling. It thins the field.
- Count pot odds: if calling 50 to win 200 only needs about 20% equity, a flush draw is a call.
- When your stack is below about ten big blinds, think in terms of moving all-in or folding.
