IQ Quiz is a free 2 player IQ quiz you play in the browser. You and a rival answer the same 20 timed puzzles — pattern matrices, number and letter series, logic, spatial reasoning, verbal reasoning, mental maths and general knowledge. At the end you both get an IQ score, side by side, and the higher IQ wins. It works on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to download and no sign-up.

Take an IQ test online with a friend

Every game draws a fresh, balanced mix from a bank of more than 800 checked questions. The puzzles start easy and get harder: roughly the first third are easy, the middle third medium and the last third hard. Each question has its own timer (20 seconds for easy, 30 for medium and 40 for hard, or a relaxed 30/45/60). When you answer you see straight away whether you were right — green for correct, red for wrong — with a short explanation. Your rival never sees your answer until they have locked in their own.

Online with a room code

Press Create room and share the code or invite link. Your friend joins from any device and you both answer the same question at the same time. Other people can open the room and watch: spectators see the right answer only once both players have answered.

Local vs on one device

Press Local vs to play on one phone or laptop. Player 1 answers first, then a pass screen hides everything while you hand the device over. Player 2 taps to start their own timer, and the answer is revealed after both have played.

Play vs Computer

Practising alone? Press Play vs Computer. The computer gets most easy questions right and misses more of the hard ones, so a strong game will beat it.

What the questions test

  • Patterns: complete a 3×3 matrix of shapes or pick the next shape in a sequence (shape, number, shading and rotation rules).
  • Series: the next number or letter in a sequence — steps, squares, primes, Fibonacci-style and alternating rules.
  • Logic: syllogisms (“all, some, none”), height and age orderings, letter codes and calendar puzzles.
  • Spatial: which shape is the same piece rotated, which is its mirror image, and the odd one out.
  • Verbal: analogies, opposites, odd word out and anagrams.
  • Maths: quick arithmetic, percentages, ratios and short word problems.
  • Knowledge: general knowledge from science, geography and history.

How the IQ score is worked out

Each right answer is worth 1 point (easy), 2 (medium) or 3 (hard), minus up to 15% for the time you took, so a fast right answer scores more than a slow one. Your share of the available points is mapped onto the usual IQ scale with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15: about 45% of the points gives 100, and every 18% more or less moves you 15 points. Scores are kept between 70 and 145. If both players get the same IQ, the one with more points wins; if the points are also equal it is a tie.

This is a fun estimate from a short timed quiz, not a clinical or professional IQ test.

Tips for a higher IQ score

  • In a matrix, check each row for one property at a time: shape, then number, then shading, then direction.
  • For number series, write the gaps between terms; if the gaps don’t settle, look at the gaps of the gaps or at alternate terms.
  • Mirror images can’t be made by turning a piece, however many times you rotate it.
  • Speed matters, but a wrong answer scores nothing — on hard questions take a few extra seconds.

IQ Quiz FAQ

Can two players take an IQ test together online?

Yes. In IQ Quiz you and a friend answer the same timed puzzles at the same time, by room code on two devices or on one device with Local vs. You both get an IQ score at the end and the higher one wins.

Is this a real IQ test?

No. The IQ shown is a fun estimate based on how many weighted questions you got right and how fast, mapped to a scale with mean 100 and SD 15. It is not a clinical or professional IQ test.

How many questions are in a game?

20 by default, in rising difficulty. The host can choose a quick 10-question game or a long 30-question one, and a normal or relaxed timer.

What kinds of questions are there?

Pattern matrices and shape sequences, number and letter series, logic, spatial rotation and mirror puzzles, verbal reasoning, mental maths and general knowledge.

Can my opponent see my answer?

No. Answers are kept on the server: you see whether you were right as soon as you answer, but your rival and any spectators only see your pick once both of you have answered or the timer runs out.

Is IQ Quiz free?

Yes. It is free in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download and no account needed.
